EQUINE REPRODUCTION
we make horsesMare Reproductive Exams
Is the fetus healthy? Is the mare even bred? Knowledge is critical in equine reproduction, and incomplete information can lead to problems down the road. Call SVS, and let us take the guesswork out of the equation. We offer a full complement of diagnostics and treatments:
- Manual exams
- Ultrasound
- Uterine cultures/biopsies
- Uterine lavage/treatment
We collaborate closely with our reproduction clients to ensure proper timing and preparation so that your mare (and your coming foal!) are in good health before and after the birth.
Cooled/Frozen Semen
Equine breeding has changed a lot since man first tamed horses. Live cover just offers too many risks that a veterinarian can easily help an owner avoid.
Artificial insemination allows equine owners the choice of more bloodlines, with fewer breeding/transport costs, and increased animal safety. SVS stores, transports, and receives cooled and frozen semen onsite, giving our clients a wider world of possibilities when it comes to equine genetics.
Preserve old lines, or propagate new ones, SVS can help.
Embryo transfer
Embryo transfer is one of the more specialized offerings SVS has, and it’s no simple matter. But the benefits can be impressive for clients with the wherewithall to pull it off. Transplantation allows flexibility in choosing which animals get pregnant while still controlling genetics. Maybe you have a performance animal, or a mare with a history of not carrying well; embryo transfer might be a solution that makes sense for you.
*Embryo transfer is a delicate procedure that requires specific infrastructure and equipment on the client’s end. For more information please call the office.
Stallion Collection
Artificial collection offers a number of advantages that equine owners benefit from. It’s safer, cleaner, and offers more flexibility in breeding decisions. It can even be an added income source. SVS collects semen samples, evaluates them on-site and in-house, and we can send and receive samples as well.
*Stallion collection requires certain infrastructure and equipment to be in place. Call the office for more information.
*Though SVS handles frozen semen, we do not freeze samples ourselves.
